AAPOG ANNOUNCES 2015 SCHOLARSHIPS
(Atlanta, GA ) - The Asian American Peace Officers of Georgia (AAPOG), a non-profit professional networking organization for officer of Asian Pacific American heritage affiliated with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, is pleased to announce the call for 2015 AAPOG Scholarships. "AAPOG is committed to bridging the gap between the Asian Pacific American community, who tend to distrust law enforcement, and the law enforcement community who seek to uphold laws and justice in Georgia," said Louis Tsang, AAPOG President. "AAPOG is committed to increasing community outreach and public programs to educate the public of their rights and protections in their communities and in their encounters with law enforcement." "AAPOG's officers and network of community partners are committed to advancing its mission to promote the safety and well-being of Asian Pacific Americans in Georgia," said Tricia Sung, AAPOG Executive Director. "Through the AAPOG Scholarship program, officers are intent on building the pipeline of APAs entering peace officer professions, particularly those with critical Asian language skills." AAPOG invites applications for the 2015 AAPOG Scholarship program which awards $750 to two college students who intend to pursue criminal justice and/or social service careers. For questions regarding the AAPOG Banquet or Scholarship, please contact [email protected] 2015 AAPOG SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE: To recognize students of Asian Pacific American heritage with academic, community & cultural service and / or athletic excellence and achievements and who are pursuing studies for careers in law enforcement and/or public service. ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must: 1) Be a full-time student at a college or university in Georgia 2) Have good academic standing (with a GPA of 3.00 or better) 3) Have an Asian heritage 4) Have a plan to pursue a career in criminal justice and/or social service professions 5) Be a United States citizen or a permanent resident of the United States SUBMISSION PROCEDURES: DOWNLOAD Application packet below or at http://aapog.weebly.com Please submit: 1) ___A completed application form 2) ___An essay (no more than 500 words using the Times Roman font (size 12) stating: (a) your involvement and accomplishments that reflect your Asian heritage; and (b) your interest and/or your career plan in the field of criminal justice/social work 3) ___A letter of recommendation (preferably from academia) 4) ___A copy of your current official transcript 5) ___A photo (either alone or with family members) 6) Submit the five items mentioned above in one single electronic file (either as a Word Document or PDF file) to Sutham Cobkit, AAPOG Scholarship Committee Chair, at [email protected] no later than April 10, 2015. Late applications will not be considered. SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION & RULES: The AAPOG Scholarship Committee will evaluate each applicant based on his/her academic, athletic and community service activities and accomplishments and on his/her career goal. The committee will announce scholarship winners at the annual AAPOG banquet on Friday, May 15, 2015. Two applicants will be chosen to receive a scholarship of $750.00 each. Photo and essay will be published in the Commemorative Program Book for the 2015 AAPOG APA Heroes & Advocates Awards Banquet. NOTES: (1) The AAPOG scholarship recipient is required to attend the 5/15/15 May APAHM Banquet, or the scholarship will be forfeited. (2) The AAPOG scholarship recipient is also required to participate in at least three (3) AAPOG events. |
